Situaner: With Laizes Faire System, competition has raised the bar of motivating people. Multinational have raised the bar of Basic Slary and Rem Packs. However, the secret in Interpersonal skills is the knowledge that people and situation are different and may demand situational approaches in motivation. As they say “ Different strokes for different folks”. Herzberg two factor theory extends to the concept that salary and fringe benefits are Hygiene Factors and does not necessarily motivate compared to recognition and a challenging work.

Skill Builder Program:

1.       Practice random acts of kindness.
2.       Serve as a keyworker for charitable organization in your community. 
3.       Become an active member of an organization.
4.       Interview counselors who help people improve their interpersonal skills.
5.       Read Bringing out the best in people.
6.       Volunteer to mentor a new employee.
7.       Keep a journal to record your attitudes and behavior demonstrated toward key people in your work and home life.  Identify opportunities to heal rifts.  Track your progress.
8.       Ask for feedback from colleagues and supervisors for ideas on how they improve their interpersonal communication
9.       Volunteer as a team leader or chair of a committee.

Illustration:

Pedro was hired by Best Lotions Inc. to manage a distributor in NCR. Pedro was introduced to the Distributor Team. He was polite and friendly without being too familiar.  Pedro made it a point to have lunch with the supervisor and OM every opportunity he had. After a days work, he would join the team in videoke. Being humane and sharing good and bad times with his distributor team earned Pedro the respect and cooperation of everyone. Operations are swiftly done and targets are achieved.
